Regional Vision Plan
The vast majority of the criteria for regional vision plans as
outlined by the North Carolina General Assembly in Section 13.6
of House Bill 1414 concern the Vision Plan itself – its composition,
effect, monitoring, recommended infrastructure enhancements, use
of North Carolina’s extensive higher education capacity, and
the leadership necessary to effectively implement the plan’s
goals and objectives.
Working with the project’s Steering Committee, Market Street
will use the conclusions from the Competitive Realities
analysis and the Target Cluster Analysis to develop a specific guide
to help maintain, grow, and develop existing and unforeseen opportunities
in specific business sectors in the Piedmont Triad region.
The Regional Vision Plan will be inclusive of the following
categories:
- Attention to existing and future businesses,
- Targeting the most appropriate business clusters for local
development;
- Providing the resources needed to enable current residents
to start and grow their own small businesses;
- Ensuring that the Piedmont Triad region has the most competitive
business climate possible
(inclusive of infrastructure, costs, education, quality of life
and workforce development resources); and
- Leveraging regional partnerships for economic development,
including the assimilation of ongoing and
future local and state planning and development initiatives
in the Piedmont Triad’s planning efforts.
It is only through focused attention on these five critical components
of local economic development that the Piedmont Triad region will
achieve its true job and wealth-creation potential.
Ultimately, it is Market Street’s belief that the success
of the proposed strategy will depend on the degree to which it meets
the critical needs and opportunities identified throughout this
process.
